On-call schedules

On-call (/oncall) defines who gets paged, when, and how escalation works — so the right person hears about the right problem first.

Cookbook: set up a rotation

  1. Open On-call → Schedules → New schedule.
  2. Add the people in the rotation and the cadence (daily/weekly handoff).
  3. Define escalation — if the primary doesn't ack within N minutes, page the secondary/manager.
  4. Add temporary overrides for holidays or coverage swaps.
  5. Connect the schedule to alert routing (critical alerts follow it) and to your paging integration (PagerDuty/OpsGenie) in Integrations.

Health metrics

Track ack rate and pages in the last 7 days to spot alert fatigue and unbalanced rotations — then tune rules and silences to keep the signal high.

Pair on-call with SLOs and burn-rate alerts so people are paged for user-impacting problems, not every transient blip.
